Introduction to our Corporate Strategy

In 2017 we published Shifting the balance which set out our plans for better, fairer regulation of dental professionals. We think that regulation should focus on making things go right rather than taking action when things go wrong. We call this approach ‘moving upstream’, and it is at the heart of our strategy for the next three years.

We have now published our plans for 2020‑2022 and we want to hear your views. We are not only enthusiastic about this ambitious programme of work, but also about the conversation we can now

have about our proposals. This is the first time we have been able to seek views from all our stakeholders about the work we intend to undertake to fulfil the objectives we have been set by Parliament.

Whilst this is not a consultation about the fees dental professionals pay, we recognise that the choices we make in carrying out our work affects the level of the fee. It is for this reason that we are also talking about the Annual Retention Fee (ARF) now.

We are setting out our five strategic aims for 2020‑2022. Under each, we detail the work we will undertake to achieve these aims (our objectives) and the costs associated with each body of work (our expenditure plans).

This consultation provides an opportunity for everyone to have their say on our plans for the next three years and we really want to hear from as many people as possible.

To fully understand our plans before responding to the consultation, we recommend you work your way through each of the strategic aims to read the proposals in each section before selecting ‘Tell us your views’ from any page.
